5 things to look forward to this week:
1.     Your uterus lining starts to thicken.
2.     An egg is ripening in your ovaries.
3.     Time to think about all the many ways your life is going to change.
4.     Start saving for your baby.
5.     Have a lot of sex and find the right position.

How your life will change this week:
Now that your period is over, levels of oestrogen prompt your uterus lining to thicken with blood rich tissue while progesterone prepares your uterus to receive a fertilised egg. Ovarian follicles are maturing and one will release an egg into your fallopian tube when you ovulate. This egg will hopefully meet a sperm and become your future baby.

Sex at the end of this week can result in pregnancy, even before you ovulate. Sperm survives for longer than eggs, so they have a little head start.

Your baby’s development this week:
It’s you doing all the work at the moment. An egg and sperm won’t meet until next week, and then the miracle really happens. This week your body is getting ready to be your baby’s home.

This week’s To Do list:
  • Make sure you are in good health before you get pregnant – have a thorough check-up with your doctor.
  • Start taking vitamin supplements or prenatal vitamins, as well as folic acid.

If you have 5 minutes…
Pregnancy top tip.
Being overweight or underweight can affect your fertility. Start a pre-conception exercise plan to help you get nearer to your ideal weight.
