21 weeks pregnant

5 things to look forward to at 21 weeks pregnant:
1.     Your baby has eyelids and eyebrows.
2.     You may be able to feel your baby hiccup!
3.     Tightness in your uterus.
4.     More heartburn. Sorry.
5.     Thinking about baby names.
How your life will change this week:
This might be the easiest phase of your pregnancy – although not for everyone. If you’re finding it comfortable, it’s a good idea to enjoy it as much as you can. The nausea, fatigue and incessant need to urinate that accompanied the early weeks have probably passed, and you’re not so big that moving around is difficult. It might feel like your baby is using your insides as a punching bag, and your family and friends will be able to feel the movements if they put their hands against your tummy. You may have noticed that your skin is itchy as it stretches, and you may have seen stretch marks appearing on  our body as it changes shape. Don’t forget to moisturise daily to prevent these worsening. If you feel moments of tightness in your uterus, don’t worry – they are a type of warm-up contraction as your body prepares to give birth. 

Your baby’s development this week:
Your baby is moving around a lot inside you. You might even start to notice patterns in activity, or that your baby reacts to certain things in certain ways. In many ways, you are already getting to know each other. Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelashes are fully formed and can blink. If your baby is a little girl she will already have her lifetime supply of eggs in her ovaries – about six million. If your baby is a  ittle boy then his testes will move down from inside his pelvis into his scrotum in the next few weeks. You may also be able to feel your baby hiccupping this week!

This week’s To Do list:
  • Think about doing a pregnancy photo shoot with your partner.
  • Read about different birthing methods, and start thinking about which one you want to use.
  • Research antenatal courses and sign up for one that will start around 26 weeks.
  • Buy something nice for your baby’s nursery.

Use lotions and oils to keep your skin moist, and apply them when you get out of the bath or shower. They can be very soothing, and a great excuse for a quick massage.
